Eerst en vooral, mijn beste wensen voor 2012. 2011 is als een speer voorbijgevlogen en ook het maken van lijstjes of voornemens vliegen mij voorbij. Ook al was het wat rustiger op mijn blog, 2011 was absoluut een geweldig jaar. Op professioneel vlak vanwege de vele leuke trouwkoppeltjes en andere opdrachten, maar vooral privé met de geboorte van Bent.

Ook 2012 beloofd opnieuw een belangrijk hoofdstuk te gaan worden in het leven van ons 3-tjes. Een grote renovatie die meer weg heeft van een nieuwbouw, de verkoop van ons huis en dus ook een verhuis zullen er ongetwijfeld voor zorgen dat het een druk jaartje zal worden. Maar meer over onze plannen later.

Voor 2012 aanvaard ik opnieuw een beperkt aantal huwelijken om voldoende tijd te kunnen voorzien voor het gezin en de opvolging van de bouw. De plaatsjes zijn dus eerder beperkt….

Net zoals vorige jaren bied ik opnieuw in het pakket een standaard album aan. Een leuke 20×20cm album met 15 dikke, stevige bladen met lay-flat binding en voorzien van een witte of zwarte lederen kaft.

Annelies & Ben were my voluntary test couple for an eSession a while ago and having spent some time together is just pure gold. It means that when I ring the doorbell in the morning you can feel more like a friend as opposed to being “the photographer”. Everybody is that much more relaxed.

Annelies & Ben really spend a lot of time on the details of their wedding and everything felt very personalized. Dinner and party were hosted at the Artcube in Gent and I’m sure it was a party to remember. I certainly know I had a very fun day capturing their wedding. Thanks guys!

Wedding Seike+Kristof

A lot of wedding posts are left unwritten, truth is that I’m struggling to find a balance between work, more work & family. Luckily when I get home from a full-time job there is this little munchkin always greeting me with a big genuine smile, EVERY day. So when I’m home my mind doesn’t go into “post-processing mode” as often as it should, I just want to play with him. Yet I’m a constant race trying to catch-up on my todo list: unedited weddings, unedited shoots, wedding albums to made, I didn’t even get to make a personal “Bent” album yet. Shame on me.

Sometimes I just want to throw in the towel, and while I’m not going to that, 2012 will see some changes. (more about that in the near future)

But then there are things that remind me why I love to take pictures, why I love to shoot weddings and why I want to keep doing what I do. It’s the reactions you get from couples after showing them their pictures, a personal thank you, to see their smile and happiness. The moment where you know you made a difference for that couple, when you know your pictures will proudly be shown to friends, family and later their children.

So for now, I’ll just keep struggling and meanwhile try to share some awesome 2011 weddings.

Seike & Kristof, thank you for having me along on your big day, thank you for your warmth.

Having this little critter in the house has been a real joy, so neglecting my blog doesn’t really make me feel bad at all. But because I haven’t been posting much here lately doesn’t mean I’ve been sitting still.

Most of my dailies are being posted on my facebook fanpage or my “photo of the day” page. So hit that like button, you know you want to. And if genuine love for me isn’t enough to convince you, I’ll be announcing some giveaways via facebook soon. Ha!

Wedding Karolien & Wouter

Because of our little family expansion I kept my wedding schedule rather open this year. It was only 2 months ago that I kicked off my 2011 “season” with the wedding of Karolien & Wouter. It’s hard to explain but the whole day was filled with a warm glow of tranquility, Karolien & Wouter are 2 very friendly, relaxed and down to earth people and they just wouldn’t have any of that usual wedding chaos that sometimes can occur. They really made me feel at home and it was the kind of day that reminded me how much I love shooting wedding. It felt good to be back in the field.

I hope you guys enjoyed your pictures and a hug to little “chilli” & “pepper”

eSession @ K. · Seike & Kristof

Seike & Kristof decided on a last minute eSession to prepare them for their big day in two weeks. We decided to meet up in K. and that shopping mall proved to be the ideal playground for me! Even the underground parking gave us some darn pretty results. Just for the sake of getting some “fresh air” and for the first time in weeks that it wasn’t raining, we took a little stroll to a nearby park for some more fun!

Guys, I really had a blast shooting your engagement pictures and I’ll be seeing you two in less than two weeks!

eSession · Ben & Annelies

To prep Ben & Annelies for their big day and to take my X100 a spin we headed out for a walk in my neigbourhood. It’s actually a lot of fun to find some new spots and to give a new twist on some old spots. We all had great fun and I think the pictures really show for it. On to the wedding!

A note about the Fuji X100

I still have a love-hate relation with this camera. Let me be clear: the design is very much there, the image quality is up to par with any proper reflex and on high ISO this baby even out performs my 5D mark II. The performance is there but it’s not consistant enough, mainly because of the control/focus & menu issues that this camera has. These things keep bugging me but at the same time, I can’t put it down. I took me a while to be able to describe my “feelings” towards the camera but the the bottom line is that this camera is not intented for everybody, you can’t just pick it up and shoot with it. The camera’s has it’s own style and as a photographer you will have to adjust yourselft to it. For now the camera goes with me on weddings & eSessions and I use it when I can , but I still don’t trust the bastard on the more important moments when I haven’t captures the shot with my trusty 5D’s first.
